Rugby sevens have been one of the most exciting new additions to the Olympics since it was
introduced in 2016. The 7-on-7 game is high paced, more scoring making it very popular for
fans across the globe. With the games just 14 minutes long, upsets are possible which means,
both tournaments could be wide open.
Men’s Tournament
France +300
The host nation are the slight betting favorites and anything less than gold would be a disaster
for France. Antoine Dupont has taken a break from his rugby union career to bring gold for
France. But will the home pressure be too much?
Argentina 7s +300
Argentina won the World Sevens Series and started the season making the final in four straight
stops, winning in Cape Town, Perth and Vancouver. But Argentina failed to make a final in the
final three events. Still, a tough side, who could come out on top.
New Zealand +350
Always a global power, New Zealand is coming off two wins in the Sevens Series, the final two
stops, Hong Kong and Singapore. They did make the Olympic Final at the Tokyo Games, but
settled for silver. This could be a redemption tour for the All-Blacks.
Fiji +400
They are the two time defending Olympic champions and can never be counted out in the
Sevens. Fiji didn’t fare well in 2024, finishing sixth after two third place finishes the previous two
years. Still, it’s the country’s most important sport, their only gold medals at the Olympics, and
will try to three-peat in Paris.

Women’s Tournament
New Zealand 7s Women -110
New Zealand has dominated women’s sevens winning seven champions in eleven years, which
included two runner-up finishes. The Black Ferns are the defending Olympic champs, and
barring a colossal collapse, should make the finals for a third straight Summer Games.
Australia 7s Women +150
Australia has always been New Zealand’s arch-nemesis. They upset the Black Ferns at the
2016 Olympics but were knocked out in the quarters in 2020 by Fiji. The Wallaroos are
four-time Sevens Series winner, and were just two points behind New Zealand for the title in
2024. Many feel this tournament will be decided by these two countries.
Canada 7s Women +2800
Canada could be a sleeper pick as they look to upgrade from the bronze they won in 2016.
The Canadians finished second in the Sevens Series in 2020 and fourth in the Grand Finals in
2024. All it would take is one big upset to shake up this tournament, and Canada could be that
squad.
