It will be the first Monday Night matchup of the college season when Florida State hosts Boston
College. The Eagles are coming off a 7-6 season while FSU went 13-1. But the Seminoles,
who were considered conference and playoff contenders, stumbled out of the gate losing to
Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland, 24-21. Can they turn it around back on American soil?
Boston College
New coach Bill O'Brien has had an extra week to get set for the Seminoles who come off that
stunning loss to Georgia Tech in Ireland last week. The Eagles have one of the country’s best
dual threats in quarterback Thomas Castellanos. He threw for over 2,100 yards and ran for
nearly 1,000 yards last season. Castellanos was 20-33, 305 yards and a TD, while running for
95 yards and a major against Florida State last year. And BC also has another threat in the
backfield as Kye Robichaux rushing for 780 yards and eight touchdowns. Georgia Tech racked
up 190 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground against the Seminoles so if the Eagles can get
things going, it could be a long day for Florida State.
Florida State
FSU must regroup quickly after a shocking Week 1 loss in Ireland. The Seminoles showed poor
offensive execution and defensive collapse but can they turn things around at home? The
pressure is on to reestablish themselves as one of the favorites in the ACC, and find a way to
remain in the playoff chase. A loss here and they’re pretty much out of contention. The
Seminoles had all sorts of problems including getting gashed on by the run game. The Yellow
Jackets did some damage so Florida State must find a way to stop that BC run game. FSU
should have more opportunities down-field with DJ Uiagalelei in this game, especially if Hykeem
Williams returns. You’d assume a bounce back game, but the spread may be too big for the
Seminoles to cover especially after the long travel and short rest.
Betting Odds
Boston College +17 (-110)
Florida State -17 (-110)
Total: 50 (-110)
Series head-to-head
Florida State has dominated this series winning 16 of 21 meetings including winning the last five
and 12 of the past 13 games.
Prediction
The Seminoles have to travel across the Atlantic Ocean, then get adjusted to the time
difference, and then practice for a couple days before the game on Monday. And when you look
back at the last five meetings, four games have been decided by less than 7 points. Something
tells me fatigue and travel will be a factor. FSU wins but BC covers +17
