Jared Verse, Rams DE (+225)
With the Rams offense decimated with injuries, the defense has spent more time on the field
and rookie Jared Verse hasn’t looked out of place. Through five games the 19th pick in the 2024
draft has 14 solo tackles, 8 assists and a sack. Despite his team at 1-4, Verse has stood out
defensively. With more field time his confidence will continue to build.
Laiatu Latu, Colts DE (+500)
When Laiatu Latu was drafted many thought he would be the favorite for this award. It was a
slow start as Latu only had one solo tackle through four games. But he had 4 against the
Jaguars including two assists. Latu has 2 forced fumbles, one recovered and is starting to find
his groove on the defense. What will likely hurt his chances is the Indy defense, currently dead
last giving up 419 yards a game.
Dallas Turner, Vikings DE (+1000)
Another player who was considered a top choice in the preseason was Dallas Turner. He was
selected 17th overall and a great fit for Brian Flores’ defense. After recording a sack in his first
game, Turner has been quiet since, and barely on the field. Since Week 1, he has just 3 solo
tackles and 2 assists. But as the Vikings continue to surprise, he could get more opportunities.
He’s too talented to be on the sidelines.
Byron Murphy II, Seahawks DE (+1200)
Byron Murphy II was a huge part of the Seahawks defense for the first couple of weeks with 6
total tackles and looked to fit in nicely. But he’s now missed a couple of games with injuries and
the longer he’s sidelined, the lesser his chance of taking this award despite being one of the
best defensive players of this class. If you are looking for value, he is an option but he has to get
healthy and then help the Hawks defense which has been brutalized the last two weeks.
T’Vondre Sweat, Titans DE (+1600)
T’Vondre Sweat did nothing in the first two weeks of the season but had two solid games since,
including one in prime time. In the Titans Monday night win against Miami, Sweat recorded six
total tackles, including 2.5 stuffs raising the eyebrows of many onlookers. The 2nd round pick
was named college football’s best interior lineman last year and is making an impact with
Tennessee. He does offer some long odds but with a second half surge, he could surprise
many.
