The 2024 edition of the Copa America tournament will be hosted by the United States because
of a newly signed agreement between the South American football confederation and
CONCACAF. 11 teams from CONMEBOL and 5 from CONCACAF will compete in the biggest
regional tournament outside of Europe.
Argentina (+175)
Argentina is not only the best team on this side of the world but also the best team on the planet
right now. Since losing the opening game at the 2022 World Cup to Saudi Arabia, Argentina
has won 16 of 17 with the only loss coming to Uruguay this past November. Even in matches
without Lionel Messi, Argentina has been dominant and this is why they are expected to defend
it’s Copa America title this summer.
Brazil (+225)
While they have the second best odds Brazil will be without their all-time leading goalscorer,
Neymar who is out after suffering a major knee injury last October. They’ll now look to Vinicius
Junior to lead the attack up front. Brazil hasn’t been tearing it up of late. Since the 2022 World
Cup, they are just 4-5-1 but recent wins vs England and a dramatic draw vs Spain tells us this
team is still dangerous. They are learning to play without Neymar, making them very dangerous
this summer.
USA (+1200)
Could the Americans pull off a shocker on home soil? It’s not as far-fetched as you may think.
They are the best team in CONCACAF and recently captured a third consecutive Nations
League title. But now the U.S. is stepping up in class in a big way. At the 2022 World Cup,
scoring was an issue, just three goals in four matches. International superstar Christian Pulisic
leads the way offensively for the Americans. They are in an ‘easier’ group facing Bolivia,
Panama and Uruguay in round-robin play. They should reach the knockout stage with ease,
after that, home-field advantage could come into play against some of the other South American
giants.
REAL LONGSHOT PLAY
Canada +6600
They took the scenic route to qualify but Canada punched its ticket by defeating Trinidad and
Tobago in a playoff. Overall, this team has really struggled since the 2022 World Cup, winning
just five of 12 matches, and most against non-elite squads. But Canada still has two global
stars in Jonathan David and Alphonso Davies. Sure, they face Messi and Argentina but they
need results (other matches against Peru, Chile) leading into 2026 when Canada co-hosts the
World Cup.
