The women’s basketball tournament is almost a formality every four years, the Americans show
up, dominate, and leave with the gold. The United States have won Olympic gold seven straight
times and nine of the last 10 Summer Games. While the rest of the world is getting a little bit
closer, the U.S. are by far the best on the planet. But when it comes to betting odds, can you
possibly find some value outside the favorites? We’ll look at which countries could pull off the
miracle and not only win the tournament but cash in a big price ticket.

Even without Caitlin Clark on the roster, they are the deepest and most talented squad in Paris.
They are experienced, the youngest players are 26 while 42-year old Diana Taurasi is the
oldest. This squad doesn’t have any recent college graduates, and Aliyah Boston, who was the
WNBA Rookie of the Year, didn’t even make the roster. Realistically, the Americans should
coast through the tournament, and in all likelihood, play in the final. But will they be able to win
a record eighth straight gold medal?

China is the world’s number two ranked team, but are miles behind the Americans. The
Chinese won gold at the 2023 Asian Games but hasn’t won an Olympic medal since taking
silver back in 1992. At the 2020 Tokyo Games, China was a perfect 3-0 in the round robin play
but were upset by Serbia in the quarters. They should be in contention to reach the final, and
would have to play out of their minds to have any shot of dethroning the Americans.

Australia is ranked number three in the world and recently defeated China twice, over three
friendlies. But the Opals have a tough group that features No. 5 Canada and No. 7 France.
Australian legend Lauren Jackson will play in her fifth Olympic Games. The 42-year old
postponed her retirement to give it one more shot. There is experience on this squad with 12
players returning from the bronze medal winning team from the 2022 World Cup.
