The Dallas Stars finished first in the Western Conference and second overall after the
regular-season was wrapped up in April. They’re a balanced team with solid goaltending, depth
scoring and a puck moving blue line that will keep the Oilers on their toes. The Stars are coming
off a second round victory against the Colorado Avalanche that was never truly in doubt.
Edmonton on the other hand went the distance against the Vancouver Canucks and were
pushed to the limit despite outshooting them 203-149 overall. With Dallas already having a
known entity in Jake Oettinger in net, can the Oilers figure out the cagey crease warden?
Star Power
There’s no doubt the Oilers over power Dallas in terms of actual star power. They have one of
the greatest players of all time in Connor McDavid and a man who continues to rewrite the
record books in the postseason in Leon Draisaitl. The German forward leads all skaters this
postseason with 6 power play goals and 24 points overall, while McDavid is not far behind after
posting 21 through two rounds. Zach Hyman leads all players with his 11 goals in these playoffs
and isn’t anywhere close to being done.
For Dallas, Wyatt Johnston leads the team with 7 goals but it’s the timing of them. He has two
game winning goals and 11 points overall. Jason Robertson leads all forwards on the Stars
squad with 12 points.
Dominant Defence
Edmonton’s Evan Bouchard is five points up on the already eliminated Cale Makar with his 20
postseason points. He sits third in points, behind Draisaitl and McDavid with Nugent-Hopkins
not far behind in fourth. Bouchard put up five points in his last two games against Vancouver
and is a force to be reckoned with thanks to his sniper-like shot from the point. For Dallas, it’s all
about Miro Heiskanen who leads the team with 13 points. He averages over 28 minutes of ice
time per game and is constantly driving the play towards the offensive zone.
